Chapter 6: Hope Fulfilled

And that little blessing entered the world in August 2010.  They named him Levi which is Hebrew for “joined together.”  According to his {completely unbiased} parents, he was the perfect baby.

Michelle saw that the same qualities that made her fall in love with Herb were qualities that made him an excellent father; especially his patience, heart to serve, and desire to provide for his family physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  Herb loved watching Michelle’s ability to nurture Levi, make a house a home, and give loving discipline.

When Levi entered their lives, everything changed – their hearts, schedules, social lives, and home.  Life slowed down, yet the years passed so much more quickly.  Overnight, Levi transformed from a snuggly, content baby into a sensitive, intelligent, and active little boy.  Herb and Michelle delighted in time spent together as a family, taking Levi to baseball and hockey games, going on vacation to the beach, family movie nights, and playing in the backyard.  The icing on the cake was an open loving relationship with Levi’s birth family – they shared together in special events and life moments, and Levi even carried his birthmother’s wedding rings down the aisle the day she married the love of her life.

One day as Levi threw a football against the fence by himself as Michelle prepared dinner, Michelle’s heart swelled and knew Levi was going to need a sibling.  They lived in a house with plenty of space, a community with a great school district, attended a caring church with support and resources for parents and children.  Herb was 34, Michelle was 30, Levi was 4, and the timing felt right.

And now, as they wait for a baby number two, they are getting ready for everything to change again, preparing Levi for his role as big brother, and readying an aqua, yellow, and gray nursery.  As the story of these two love-struck band geeks unfolds, they know God will get the glory in every twist and turn of their story.
